- U.S. Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Program is a national research program involving 18 U.S. sites from Alaska to Puerto Rico, plus two in Antarctica and a network coordination office. Funded by the National Science Foundation to conduct research on long-term ecological phenomena. A collaborative effort among over 750 scientists and students which extends the opportunities and capabilities of the individual sites to promote comparative research across sites and ecosystems and with other similar national and international programs.
